Monday 3 August
We kick off the week with a creative and active start to our world tour! Monday at Discovery Holiday Club is set to be a brilliant start to the week with our exciting Around the World theme. Children will head out to Oaken Grove and enjoy a day filled with creativity, adventure and hands-on fun. They will make their own rain shakers using rice and lentils, take part in a British values quiz competition, and get creative again in the afternoon by making tea-stained scrolls and working together to build a giant Eiffel Tower through junk modelling. Alongside the planned activities, children can enjoy free play with dressing up, Lego, train tracks, action figures, board games, den building and art and craft. With bikes and scooters welcome too, Monday promises an energetic, imaginative and memorable day for everyone.
Tuesday at Discovery Club brings even more adventure. A very special highlight of the day is a visit from the much-loved mobile farm, Basil Farm! A firm favourite with the children, this hands-on experience gives them the opportunity to meet, feed and learn about a range of friendly farm animals — always a memorable and exciting experience for all. The fun continues with creative activities inspired by world landmarks, including building the Leaning Tower of Pisa with paper cups and taking on an outdoor obstacle course challenge. In the afternoon, children will enjoy a special Apprentice Day experience, working in teams to plan their bake sale, create shopping lists, buy ingredients within budget, bake together and design posters to sell their cakes to parents at the end of the day. With teamwork, problem-solving, creativity and plenty of fun built in, Tuesday is a wonderful day for children to build confidence, make friends and enjoy a full day of exciting holiday club experiences.
The day finishes with outdoor sports games, scooters and bikes, followed by music games to round off a fantastic start to the week.
Alongside hands-on craft activities including salt dough Diya lamps and decorated jar designs using acrylic pens, there’s plenty of choice throughout the day with Lego, construction, dressing up and imaginative play available. After snack, children head to Oaken Grove for lunch, where they can enjoy time on the playground equipment, play games of tag with friends and make the most of the wide open green spaces for running, exploring and socialising. Bikes and scooters add to the fun, giving children plenty of opportunity to stay active and enjoy the outdoors. The afternoon continues with a fun in-house party atmosphere, followed by a creative challenge where children design their own island featuring landmarks, bridges, food and culture. The day finishes with outdoor sports games, scooters, bikes and music games.
A special trip day out to Boulters Lock for a picnic and outdoor exploration! Children spend the day enjoying fresh air, open spaces and time with friends in a relaxed setting. Throughout the day, children take part in cultural-inspired activities including writing their names in Chinese symbols, exploring Australian landmark colouring and creating their own made-up languages in pairs. The day continues with a picnic lunch at Oaken Grove, social time and outdoor fun, before finishing with games, scooters, bikes and music activities on return.
We finish the week with a fun-filled celebration of everything we’ve explored! Children enjoy making henna-style and water-based tattoos, preparing fairy bread and designing boomerangs through junk modelling. There are also plenty of opportunities for free play and creative exploration throughout the morning before heading to Oaken Grove for lunch and outdoor play with bikes and scooters.
In the afternoon, children explore “Around the World” books to discover fascinating facts before making koala cookies as a cooking activity. The week ends with outdoor sports games, scooters, bikes and music games, rounding off a brilliant week of creativity, culture and adventure!
Each day, Discovery children have the freedom to take part in a variety of sport and physical activities like basketball, football, skipping, bench ball, as well as enjoy a range of free-time activities including board games, colouring in, Lego competitions, group games, and a wide selection of arts and crafts materials to choose from and enjoy at their own leisure. We have a quiet chill out zone for those just wanting to read books or magazines, do some scrapbooking or make something out of the wide range of materials available. On top of all that, children can bring along their bikes and scooters to make the most of our outdoor spaces, challenge friends at pool and table football competitions, and dive into everything from messy play and baking to team games and the freedom to just be!
