Visitor Policy

Wise Owls Childcare recognises its responsibility towards ensuring the health and safety of everyone who come directly or indirectly into contact with the setting. It is committed to providing as far as reasonably practicable a safe environment, for employees, children and visitors. This policy is important not only for security and health and safety reasons but also for the control and guidance of visitors on our premises.  

Definitions – for the purpose of this policy  

Visitor – is anyone who does not permanently work at the setting. This includes Head Office employees and staff coming from another site.  

Health and Safety / Security  

  1. Staff must check the identity (Photo ID) of any visitors they do not recognise before allowing them into the setting. All visitors to be given a Wise Owls lanyard which is to be worn at all times whilst visiting the setting. They are to be shown the emergency exits, where the toilets are located, informed strictly no digital devices and informed of who the Designated Safeguarding Leads of the setting are along with highlighting any risks identified that day.  
  2. Temporary staff / zero-hour contract completes an induction form.  
  3. All Visitors to the setting must be recorded in the Visitor’s Book and accompanied by a member of staff at all times whilst in the building (excluding Wise Owls Employees). When visitors leave the setting, they must sign out of the visitor book. Visitor records need to be audited to ensure the policy is being followed and all visitors have signed in and out of the building.  
  4. External Contractors must never be left alone with a child/children within the setting. External contractors are required to complete the ‘Suitability check’ before carrying out any work.  
  5. All external doors must be kept locked at all times and external gates closed. All internal doors and gates must be kept closed to ensure children are not able to wander.  
  6. Parents, visitors and students are reminded not to allow entry to any person whether they know this person or not. Staff within the setting should be the only people allowing external visitors and parents entry to the setting  
  7. Visits will be booked, where possible, in advance so the setting staff know when to expect them.  
  8. Visitors must report all accidents or near miss incidents on the settings premises / or when taking part in activities to a member of staff.  
  9. Visitors must look after their own and others health and safety  
  10. Visitors must comply with the settings policies and procedures i.e. No mobile phones. All visitors should be told the evacuation procedure in case of a fire.  
  11. The setting will under no circumstances tolerate any form of harassment from third parties including visitors towards others, including children, staff members and parents 
  12. Visitors are never left unaccompanied to safeguard the children within our care
